She is still a teenager, but Alia Bhatt has made up her mind about her career. Soni Razdan-Mahesh Bhatt’s daughter who is making her debut with Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year (SOTY), was clear about that she always ‘wanted to act’ and that she ‘never wanted to be launched by my father’. “If a doctor’s son wants to be a doctor, he’s sent to a medical school to study. In the same way, I want to go out and study acting for myself. If I had started off with my father’s film, it would’ve all been too easy,” says Alia
Alia plays the role of Shanaya Singhania in SOTY. She said about her role, “She’s a brand freak. Her life is incomplete without brands. She loves her Gucci and Prada. I play a doll in the movie,” she elaborated. “People always say beauty and brains don’t go hand in hand. I want to erase that perception with my role.”
Alia had her first brush with acting as a child actor in 'Sangharsh', where she played the younger Preity Zinta. The newbie is clear that she’s in it for the long haul. “I don’t want to be a one-film wonder. Or be relaunched again by anyone. Film business is a serious business, it’s like a race and I’m ready to work hard,” she says.
Two years after “My Name is Khan”, Karan Johar dons the director’s hat again for “Student of the Year”. Touted to be a romantic comedy, the film stars newcomers Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. Produced by Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan under the banner of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment, the film will be hitting theatres on October 19 this year.
