He lives a happy life with his wife Munmun (Konkona Sen Sharma), son Ayush and neighbor Pappu who is leaving for holidays now. Ayush is always getting into trouble at school because he doesn't learn the main-school-prayer, "Atithi Dev-o bhava", but even if his parents teach it him, he never really learns it. One day, suddenly an old-man shows up at their door, Lambodar Bajpai (Paresh Rawal). Lambodar claims to be Puneet's uncle, but usually pronounces him "Pappu". Lambodar disgusts both Puneet and Munmun but makes Ayush really happy.

They are tired to have an unexpected guest. Therefore, they decide to send him off to Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh and start to celebrate. To wave him off, they act like they will really miss him, which causes him to return by the time they get back home. Lambodar keeps bringing random people to their house, and the two really get tired of him. But when Puneet's car is sealed by the bank, it turns out that one of the random people Lambodar brought home was the manager of the Mumbai Bank. He returns him the car, and everything works out soft and smooth with Lambodar. But finally, he leaves after teaching Ayush the "Atithi" prayer, and one night before his ride, he goes missing. They all are really worried, when he turns up randomly. They sent him out while they are angry, but then forgive him when they realize their folly.

They all have a Happy Ending, he forgives the two and their child, and before he leaves, Puneet and Munmun's old neighbor Pappu finally comes back from holiday, and it is revealed that Pappu was actually Lambodar Chaacha's nephew, and he thought Puneet was Pappu therefore called him by the name. Munmun and Puneet decide and tell Lambodar to stay a few months with the REAL Pappu. They all go back to their homes, and live happily ever after.
